Information Retrieval/Data Mining Engineer

Location: Cambridge, MA

Panjiva is a venture-backed startup developing a next-generation information service for the millions of buyers and suppliers in the global supply chain. Founded by MIT and Harvard alumni and located in Cambridge, MA, Panjiva's technical team is creating the infrastructure that will transform how people and companies trade $10 trillion of goods each year across global borders.

Our technical challenges are numerous: processing large amounts of incredibly valuable, but incredibly dirty data from multilingual sources around the world, leveraging machine learning and NLP techniques to enrich our data collection, and making our findings available to customers via intuitive user interfaces that support interactive, real-time analysis of the global supply chain.

Our development environment is highly collaborative, where team members teach as much as they learn. Our small team of MIT, Stanford, and CMU Computer Science alumni (from companies such as Powerset and VMware) cultivate a work environment where peers can appreciate and challenge the solutions you develop. At this early stage, there is a great opportunity for leadership in the shaping of Panjiva's core architecture and its software engineering processes.

We are seeking an exceptional software engineer with a proven track record in building large scale data mining, information retrieval, and data modeling systems. You must have experience leveraging machine learning and other IR techniques on very large scale data – both text and numerical – and have exceptionally strong software engineering skills to turn your research prototypes into maintainable, high-performance systems.

Further requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science; Ph.D. a plus.
  • Familiarity with Java, Ruby, or Python
  • Database/SQL skills and familiarity with developing software on Linux
