An analysis of U.S. imports suggests that retailers believe holiday shoppers will be buying more high-end goods than in previous years.  For example, imports of cashmere and leather shipments are up for the months of August to October, which are the peak months for vendors to receive merchandise for the upcoming season.

Both goods experienced a decline from the 2011 to the 2012 season, but the modest rise in the quantity of imports for 2013 indicates that vendors are regaining confidence that consumers are willing to spend extra on gifts. Cashmere imports, including articles of clothing and home goods, rose six percent from the previous year, from 2423 to 2576. Leather imports are up seven percent on the same period last year, from 29734 to 31718, and are comprised of items such as shoes, bags, and furniture.
