American Ammunition Imports Hit New Record in 2016

Industrials - Aero/Defense 183 U.S. 4832

The U.S. civilian weapons industry had a mixed year in 2016. Imports of completed handheld weapons fell 17% on a year earlier. Yet, parts imports climbed 45% – when combined with a 19% rise in background checks there is clearly still demand for new weapons. Ammunition imports soared, rising 96% on a year earlier for 2016 as a whole. Fiocchi Munizioni was the largest importer for a third year having shipped 4,190 tons of ammunition, with new entrant Poongsan supplying 3,125 tons from 49 tons the year before.
