Avocados Twice The Size of Tequila as Cinco de Mayo Boom Continues

The increasing popularity of Cinco de Mayo celebrations can be seen in expanding exports of traditional Mexican food and beverages. Exports of tequila outperformed in the first three months of 2018, rising 13% vs. avocados’ 6%. Over the longer-term though changing consumer tastes have given the advantage to avocados, with a 14% growth in the past three years to reach $749 million in the first quarter which was double the value tequila shipments.
