Singapore’s port facilities are increasingly reliant on containerized traffic. Container handling increased 9% in June on a year earlier, while non-containerized traffic fell 0.4%. The decline in oil handling fell 1%, slower than the 9% drop in May. In common with China’s ports shipments to the U.S. underperformed, with a 17% drop on average. West coast ports did better than the east, with Los Angeles receiving 11% more traffic from Singapore while Newark/New York saw a 7% decline.
