The baby-food market in China is booming, with dairy manufacturer Danone reporting a more-than-50% growth in sales in infant formula. Improved standards and a small rise in the birth rate have increased demand. Panjiva data shows Chinese imports of infant formula reached $391 million in August, 72% higher than a year earlier and the highest since at least 2013. Formula has lagged broader dairy imports in the past year as U.S. farmers have regained access to the market, though total imports are still 21% below their January 2014 peak.
