China’s Ministry of Commerce has applied anti-dumping duties of up to 31% on Thai exports of plastic precursor BPA, with retroactivity to November. Total Chinese BPA imports fell only 3% in the fourth quarter vs. the first, partly due to a spike in shipments from Thailand to the highest since March 2015. That likely explains the decision to apply duties back to November. In the meantime Taiwanese suppliers, seeking to take a share of purchasers from leading buyers including Makrolon and the local subsidiaries of Mitsui and Mitsubishi, increased their shipments by 43%.
