Gallo invests in Charleston after wine shipments fizz up

E. & J. Gallo Winery will invest $423 million in a new bottling and distribution center near the port of Charleston, SC. The port has actively pursued new distribution centers, including Walmart with a deal signed a year ago. U.S. seaborne imports of wine linked to Gallo climbed 36.5% year over year in the 12 months to May 31 with the majority shipped into Newark / New York. Other shippers whose wine imports are rising rapidly include Cardinal Wines whose shipments climbed 163% year over year in the past 12 months.
