General Motors Leads Surging Mexican Auto Exports, VW Less Exposed to NAFTA

Mexican automotive exports surged 31% higher in April, excluding Nissan, following a 15% rise in the first quarter. That was led by a near doubling of shipments by General Motors as it cut inventories and re-exported production from other countries. Ford by contrast suffered a 36% drop due to waning popularity of its cars in the U.S. Volkswagen was the second best performer, rising 49% in the month, and should also prove more resilient to longer term disruptions as NAFTA talks reach a conclusion.
