The Indian steel export industry faces a growing range of “safeguarding” duties globally though steelmaker JSW believe that “domestic demand has been buoyant” and will soak up excess supplies. Indian exports of the steel products covered by America’s section 232 review to all buyers have already fallen by 16% in the three months to April 30. The biggest risks come from the EU’s safeguarding review as it accounted for 29% of Indian exports in the 12 months to April 30 whereas the U.S. was just 5% (led by steel pipelines and tubing).
