Mitsui-OSK’s Readies Oakland for Growth as Japan Trade Deal Beckons

TraPac, the port operator owned by Mitsui-OSK and Brookfield, has completed terminal works in Oakland that could add 15% to capacity. For context total traffic through the port climbed by 5.1% in 2018 compared to 2017. Ocean Network Express (ONE), the container-line which Mitsui-OSK owns a stake in, will likely be the major user of the new facility. ONE has lost ground to competitors recently after its inbound volumes to Oakland grew 4.2% year over year in 2018 while growth for the port overall reached 9.3%.
