MSC Suffers Cocaine Hangover as Handling Falls, Status Reinstated

MSC has regained its C-TPAT expedited customs status from the U.S. government after an investigation into cocaine smuggling on the MSC Gayane was completed. The temporary suspension – which ended after a crew member was charged – appears to have taken a toll on the container-line’s performance. Panjiva’s data shows total U.S.-inbound volumes handled fell 5.6% year over year in August compared to an average 0.7% for all liners.
