New Route Brings New Opportunities for Afghanistan-India trade

Trade relations between India and Afghanistan look set to improve after the opening of a new trade route via Iran. Bilateral trade between India and Afghanistan was $487 million in the 12 months to Nov. 30, with Indian exports accounting for 76.0% of the total. The route may give Afghanistan room to diversity its exports of which 80.7% were organic resins and 13.2% spice. India’s exports meanwhile have included apparel and footwear, accounting for 54.6% of the total, followed by pharmaceuticals including generic drugs exported by Lupin.
