Samsung SDI, LG Chem’s lithium demand rises as SQM turns on the taps

SQM reported a Q2 decline in revenues which included a 38.0% slide in its sales of mined lithium, used in batteries for cars and consumer electronics, in the wake of COVID-19’s impact on global demand and lithium prices. The firm expects “demand in 2020 will be similar to 2019” and it is also “optimistic about the fundamentals” for long term demand. Prices for lithium are expected by SQM to be lower in H2’20 than H1’20 due to increased global supplies.
