Sigma Recycling may need new destination as Malaysia trashes U.S. trash

Malaysia is cracking down on imports of plastic waste and has started sending shipments back to their origin countries. This continues a trend of banning imports of waste started by China back in 2017, when China received 85.2% of U.S. plastic waste exports. Malaysia’s share of the disposed goods rose to 12.4% of U.S. exports in 2020, which likely sparked action by the Malaysian government to give imports further scrutiny.
