Australia’s BlueScope Steel may have benefited from U.S. steel import duties. CEO Mark Vassella has indicated the program was “resolved in BlueScope’s favor” as a result of the exemption granted to Australian steel exporters. That’s yet to be seen in seaborne imports associated with the company which fell 22.4% on average since April through October vs. the prior 12 months. There may have been a more recent pickup with a 127% increase in the three months to Oct. 31 sequentially of the firm’s wide-gauge, flat-rolled non-alloy steel.
