USMCA Watch: Tangible Gains May Be Beaten by Tariff Politics

The U.S. ITC is scheduled to report on Apr. 19 as to the economic benefits of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement versus existing trade arrangements. The IMF has previously identified a net benefit from the new deal, but with reduced trade in some sectors. The analysis comes as trilateral trade between the three countries reached $1.25 trillion in the 12 months to Feb. 28. That’s up 6.2% year over year from a 0.9% annual drop in the prior three years.
