U.S. seaborne imports of crude oil fell 21% in December and 31% for the fourth quarter, Panjiva data shows. Valero overtook Chevron as the largest importer in December despite the latter’s imports rebounding from November’s more-than-seven-year lows. PBF Energy fell to eighth largest importer from third after fourth quarter imports slumped 57.0% on a year earlier. Delta Airlines’ Monroe Energy increased imports the most, with 66% growth on a year earlier. Pemex meanwhile saw a three quarter cut in imports, possibly as it diverts fuel to meet Mexican shortages.
