Winter Sports Imports Heading Downhill

Following a poor winter sports season in 2015/16 and a warm fall, it is perhaps not surprising that imports of ski- and snowboarding equipment are taking a tumble. August is the start of the peak import season for retailers, and Panjiva data shows imports are down 19% on a year earlier. Jackets are performing particularly poorly, down 49%, while eyewear is only down 8%. Retailers and manufacturers from American Sports to Burton do not appear to feel optimistic about the coming season.
