The Asian shipbuilding industry saw an uptick in exports in December with exports from China, Japan and South korea combined having risen by 11.2% year over year. For 2018 overall though a prior period of slow orders meant that aggregate exports for the year of $55.5 billion were the worst since at least 2009. South Korean yards, including DSME and Hyundai Shipbuilding did best with a 26.3% jump in exports in December.
