Return to 2015 Exports Sees Shipyards Extend Recovery After Orders Resume

The global shipbuilding industry continued its steady recovery in September with a 3% rise in exports from China, Japan and South Korea to reach $5.5 billion. That brought the 12 month total to $76.9 billion, the highest since December 2015. South Korea’s yards led the way with a 39% rise vs. declines in China and Japan. That reflects earlier order activity, with China’s yards having the potential to catch-up after orders in September reached a 16 month high.
