The European Union has confirmed it will retain tariffs against Chinese solar power equipment, but will phase them out over 18 months. That is designed to support member states’ renewable energy targets. The move is a welcome one for Chinese manufacturers. Their global shipments fell 47% in December, the ninth straight drop. In the meantime manufacturers including Trina Solar and Hanwha Q-Cells have had to rely on India for growth.
