British Break with Continental Export Optimism

The export expectations of British and German managers diverged in the most recent surveys. The CBI’s survey showed the net proportion of U.K. managers seeing export orders below normal increased to 15% in December from 6% in September. This would suggest the post-Brexit drop in the pound has been accounted for, and trade-deal worries are starting to weigh. German managers surveyed by IFO became more upbeat, a similar trend to that being seen in France.
