A new cargo service between China’s Gansu province and Pakistan’s Gwadar port will give the province a new route to market after its exports fell 37% in the past 12 months. It follows a recent new route to Europe and forms part of the belt-and-road strategy. Gansu has historically relied on river- and seaborne routes for 62% of its exports to reach final markets, while rail was just 3%.
