A surge in avocado prices due to a weak Californian harvest is drawing in expanded supplies to the U.S. Imports from Mexico climbed 6.5% year over year in the three months to May 31 while those from Peru and Chile surged 45.5% and 66.7% higher respectively. That’s good news for Mexican exporters including Calavo and Del Monte who have increased shipments by 9.5% and a less impressive 0.7% respectively. Mission meanwhile saw a 15.3% drop in its Mexico-to-U.S. shipments, but has increased its exports to the U.S. from Peru by 69.5% to compensate.
