China Export Outlook Better, But Still Bad

Business sentiment regarding the outlook for trade activity in China improved slightly in July, but remained in firmly negative territory. The export order outlook result of 46.9 in July’s CFLP survey – where below 50 indicates a contraction – improved from 46.3 a month earlier. A pause in escalating tensions between the U.S. and China may have helped, but could rapidly reverse if negotiations breakdown or geopolitics interfere.
