China’s Belt-and-Road faces chill wind from trade subsidy investigations

The European Commission has ruled that glass fiber fabric imports from Egypt have been sold below cost as the factories effectively received subsidies as part of China’s Belt-and-Road initiative. That’s an innovative use of trade law and may provide routes both to increased EU-U.S. cooperation as well as giving the U.S. a new tool to tackle China in their ongoing trade rivalry.
