COSCO Shipping Ports reported a 9% rise in container handling at its mainland China ports in August, the 10th rise and inline with the mainland average. The outlier was its Pearl River ports which saw a 4% decline on a month earlier due to Typhoon Hato. Hong Kong’s ports saw a similar issue, with Kwai Sing seeing a 5% drop vs. July, bringing the total 2% lower than a year earlier. That was a third month of underperformance vs. the mainland and regional peers including Singapore.
