Ikea Buys TaskRabbit as Imports Hop Ahead of The Herd

Ikea’s acquisition of on-demand jobs platform TaskRabbit shows Ikea’s growth is leading to an increased need from customers for help in constructing its products. That success can be seen in its U.S. import figures. Panjiva data shows imports by Ikea climbed 20% in the past quarter on a year earlier and by 7% in the past year. By contrast retail sales by furniture stores grew by just 3%. That’s leading other retailers including Bob’s and Rooms-to-Go to rely more on imports.
