Mexico’s ventilator export surge stops as COVID-19 spreads

The spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Mexico has led some hospitals in Mexico City to turn away new patients. While Mexico has not joined 80 other countries in restricting medical supply exports that could change. Exports of ventilators may be particularly at risk after Smiths Medical’s manufacturing was temporarily closed in April. Mexico’s exports of ventilators fell by 4.1% year over year in March after a surge in the first two months of the year.
