Rupert Shows Montreal That Even Grand Capacity Plans Can Be Rapidly Used Up

Canada 493 Corp - Ports 881 Mode - Containerized 1470

The Montreal Port Authority will proceed with the Contrecoeur expansion to 3.25 million TEUs from 2023 vs. 2.1 million currently at a cost of C$650 million ($525 million). Handling at the port increased by 6% in 2017, but by just 3% annually over the past three years. Additional port capacity is often used up rapidly, with Prince Rupert (on Canada’s west coast) already running at 75.7% of its uprated capacity in the first six months of operations.
