Container handling through South Korea’s ports climbed 4% on a year earlier in July. That made a fifth month of growth, but a slower rate of growth than previously. Exports from Busan were the main driver of growth, expanding 8% on a year earlier and reflecting South Korea’s broader trade expansion including airfreight. Busan is pulling ahead of the other ports, with a 5% increase in U.S.-bound shipments vs. a 4% drop from the other ports. Data comparisons in the next two months will likely be distorted by Hanjin Shipping’s failure last year.
