U.S. rice farmers will gain access to the Chinese market for the first time after final quality inspections. That’s something of an unsung success for U.S.-China trade relations against the backdrop of struggling CED talks. Panjiva data shows Chinese rice imports have begun to recover after a 10% drop in the past year. U.S. suppliers will need to convince buyers such as Cofco to reduce their exposure to Vietnamese (52% of the total) and Thai (31%) producers. The move comes as U.S. export growth is beginning to slow, with Japanese-bound supplies having dropped 14%.
