WTO Becomes Less Certain By Becoming More Optimistic

The WTO has cut its forecast for trade growth in 2017 to 2.4% from 2.45% in its September report. Yet, it has widened its level of forecast uncertainty – due to changing trade policies – by increasing its “best case” forecast by 0.5% points to 3.6%. The biggest cut to its base-case forecast came from south and central America. That came despite accelerating growth seen in Brazilian trade in the first quarter.
