Shanghai’s Surprise as Chinese Container Handling Hits High

China’s container ports handled 19.4 million TEUs in March, 10% more than a year earlier and the highest since at least 2011. That lagged the 22% growth in the country’s imports. Shanghai led the expansion with a 13% increase. On U.S. bound routes though it was Yantian that led the way, Panjiva data shows. That may have been the result of its exposure to bulky consumer goods including furniture.
