The WTO has launched an investigation into the EU’s treatment of China as a non-market economy in its trade cases. Under the terms of China joining the WTO it should be given market economy status (MES) from December 11 2016. Panjiva analysis of WTO and European Commission filings show the EU applied 94 restrictions against China since 2008. However, it is only the nine decisions made since mid-December that this case may directly impact upon on an ex-post basis.
