A Bit More BTIA Will Help India’s Lackluster Export Growth to the EU

India and the EU will continue with talks to formulate the Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA) in mid-November. That’s just one of several global trade deals that appear to be accelerating as a response to U.S. trade policy. BTIA’s progress may be complicated by precedents from the EU’s trade deal with Japan and India’s involvement in the RCEP project which includes China. The EU accounted for 16% of India’s exports in the past year, making it the number one export market, while in total it accounted for 10% of trade and hence number two after China.
