China may be taking actions against U.S. agricultural exports on top of the tariffs it has applied in retaliation against section 232 metals duties. Imports of pork, among others, are facing extended quarantine and inspection periods. That’s beginning to have a significant impact on exports. Shipments of pork to China fell 26% on a year earlier in March, and by 16% sequentially. That’s required farmers to find alternative markets, including exports to South Korea which climbed 40% on a year earlier, with the result that total shipments only fell by 3%.
