U.S. imports of weapons and parts reached their highest since July 2015 in April despite a 5% fall in background checks. That breaks a trend going back to the elections in November. This may simply be seasonal inventory fill by consignees including Beretta, Glock and Walther. However, a Supreme Court hearing on the Peruta vs. San Diego gun rights case is also being discussed in conference on May 11. Imports of ammunition meanwhile dropped to their lowest since December 2015 after abnormally high shipments in late 2016.
