Airfreight imports to California’s major airports increased 11% in October to the highest level since at least 2009. International imports to LAX jumped 21%, suggesting strong e-commerce growth and possibly a more conservative attitude by buyers to seaborne shipping risk. When added to a 5% increase in seaborne freight, driven by Chinese shipments to Los Angeles, the Panjiva Combined Cargo Index for the month climbed 6% on a year earlier. This was the seventh straight increase, and beat the 3% growth of the northwest region’s PCCI.
