Panjiva’s Combined Cargo Index provides an early read of total volumes of trade in the U.S. In July, based on the top 20 seaports and eight early reporting airports, cargoes rose 2.7% on a year earlier. By volume the leader was California, and specifically LAX airport as well as seaborne shipments into Los Angeles. Amongst the late reporters for June the Northeast, and in particular New York, was a laggard with volumes falling 2.3% vs. a countrywide 1.6% rise.
