Maersk’s APM Terminals may not renew its lease at the Port of Tacoma after losing its largest client, Matsons. Container handling to-and-from Alaska, which the Matsons deal included, accounted for 30% of traffic in the Northwest Seaport Alliance facilities (which includes Tacoma and Seattle) in the past 12 months. The port of Tacoma had already lagged the national average, with unchanged volumes in the past 12 months vs. national growth of 3%. It at least outperformed sister port Seattle.
