China Steel Rusts on EU Decision, But New Customers Will Be Found

China 2974 European Union 829 Materials - Metals/Mining 753 Metals - Steel 515 Tariffs 1796

The European Commission will apply tariffs of up to 29% on Chinese galvanized steel exports. These will likely be applied for five years after an initial period through the end of 2017. Exports to the EU had originally increased after a U.S. tariff case in mid-2015, but are now 78% below their December 2016 peak as of June 30. New customers will likely be found by suppliers including Tang Shan – exports to South Korea were 72% higher in the second quarter than a year earlier.
