China’s mainland ports handled 6% more volumes in November on a year earlier, likely driven by the acceleration in imports experienced in the month. Smaller ports outperformed the larger ones with 14% growth vs. 3% for the top 10 – a pattern that has continued since May 2014. The tech-heavy Guangzhou port led the growth, with a 21% increase taking it to third place ahead of Qingdao. A similar pattern could be seen on U.S. routes, with Chiwan expanding exports by 37% and Xiamen by 12%.
