Ford, Nissan Mexican Exports Slump Ahead of Trump Deal

Cons. Discr. - Autos 1186 Mexico 887 U.S. 5325

Mexican vehicle exports fell 1% in unit terms in January, AMIA data shows. That was the first drop in 6 months and was due to a 7% drop in light truck shipments, though cars slowed to a 5% growth from 18%. The slide was led by a 34% drop from Ford – the largest exporter by value, Panjiva data shows – and a 24% slide from Nissan. This may portend a further decline in U.S. sales, which fell 0.4% in December. More importantly though is whether U.S. industrial policy under President Trump will reward a relocation of production away from Mexico.
