Hamburg Sud Heads South As Hapag-Lloyd Builds Brazilian Business Further

Container-lines operating services to and from Brazilian ports experienced a slowdown in handling growth in May with a 4% rise on a year earlier vs. 8% for the prior months. That was driven by a 7% slide in export volumes and may worsen in June as a result of port congestion issues. Hapag-Lloyd did best among the majors with a 6% jump. By contrast Hamburg Sud’s has seen a 23% decline in the past three months. Hapag-Lloyd has seen continual growth since January 2017 and set a record in May.
