Korean Container Flows Show Alliance-Driven Consolidation of Routes

South Korea’s seaports increased their container handling by 8% on a year earlier in September, the seventh straight increase. The Port of Busan trailed the smaller ports in terms of overall activity, though a 17% jump in outbound shipments the economy’s export led growth remains alive and well. Trans-Pacific shipments began to improve, with U.S.-bound shipments having risen 3% after falling for three months. The effect of shipping alliances consolidating their routes can be seen here too, with shipments from Busan growing by 9% while those from the smaller South Korean ports fell 31%...
