New Record for Taiwan’s Exports Relies Less on China, Trump Risk Low

Taiwan’s trade surge accelerated in September with a 28% growth in exports to reach a new record. That parallels South Korea’s record-breaking performance for the month. The growth in Taiwan was driven by a 47% jump in shipments to Asia outside of China, underscoring the importance of the broader Asian supply chain in trade growth. Accelerating exports to the U.S. raise the risk of trade protectionist actions from the Trump administration, with year-to-date exports by Taiwan rising 11% vs. imports that fell 7%.
