The U.S. ITC has received a petition to investigate Chinese exports of cast-iron soil pipe fittings. While something of a niche case – imports were $8 million in the 12 months to May 31 – it joins 13 other active reviews in the iron and steel sector as well as the “national security review” of the industry. Panjiva data shows imports increased 9% in volume terms in the past year, 97% of which were from China. At the same time the average value per ton – a key measure in anti-dumping cases – fell 21%.
