Ningbo Follows Hong Kong In Finding Growth Outside Trans-Pacific Routes

China 3050 Corp - Ports 910 Logistics 476 Mode - Containerized 1524 Mode - Seaborne 1845 U.S. 5401

Growth in container handling at China’s ports increased by 8% in April, the 14th straight month of growth. That was led by a 15% expansion in volumes through Ningbo-Zhoushan. It has cemented its position as number two port ahead of Shenzhen, which only expanded by 4%. Ningbo’s success was likely driven by intra-Asia and Asia-Europe lanes. Volumes out of Ningbo on trans-Pacific routes to the U.S. only increased by 5% vs. a national average of 12%, Panjiva data shows. That repeats a pattern seen in Hong Kong.
